The National Media Commission says it has suspended the implementation of the content Standards Regulations which came into force in December last year.
The suspension follows the Supreme Court Ruling, granting interlocutory injunction in an application filed by the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, GIBA.
A statement issued by the Chairman of the NMC, Kwasi Gyan Apenteng said while abiding by the ruling, the NMC assures the public of its determination to uphold its constitutional mandate of ensuring a free and vibrant media that function within the law and put the national interest above any other consideration.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com
It is the prayer of the Commission that the Supreme Court will be able to give its judgement before commencement of the election campaigns.
This is because the substantive matter regarding the interpretation and enforcement of the recently passed LI 2224 in media content and standards is still pending before the Court.
