National Health Insurance Scheme Getting Better Under NDC —Kofi Adams

National Organizer and Coordinator of the ruling NDC, Mr. Kofi Adams, has assured that, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is getting better Under NDC , — an assurance which came from Mr. Adams as a result of claims by Nana Akufo Addo; that, he will revive the collapsing NHIS.

Mr. Adams, speaking on GH-One’s “State of Affairs” program on Monday, which was monitored by -GhanaPoliticsonline.com, quoted figures to back his claims by saying that , Enrollment figures have moved from a little over a million to more than 11 million by 2015. Facilities registered to implement has also increased and graded.

He said the NDC Government is doing everything possible to make sure health care is made accessible and affordable to all.

“Utilization in inpatients 2005 was about 28,000, outpatients was just about 500,000. Today as we speak, the inpatients have increased to over one million and outpatients have increased to 33 million. If you have a scheme that has been increased to this stage you cannot say it has collapsed. NHIS has not collapsed and will not collapse” Mr. Adam stressed.

Hon Mattew Opoku Prempeh , MP for Manhyia South , who represented the NPP on the same program , admitted that there’s an ongoing review by the current Government to better the NHIS,

He added that, as part of that process, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) authority met with the health committee of parliament.

He told viewers that every insurance program such as ours is bound to face challenges 5 to 10 yrs after start and must therefore be reviewed.
