National Data Centre begins operation -Dr. Edward Omani Boamah

The Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omani Boamah has announced the opening of the National Data Center for Public and private entities to provide information to facilitate commercial activities. He said the National Data Center has a primary data center situated in Accra with a secondary replica in Kumasi.

He said benefits to be derived in using the facility included cost efficiency as compared to purchasing and hosting an in-house physical server, reliability in terms of uninterrupted power supply, relentless cooling and 24 hours security of data and equipment.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

Dr. Omane Boamah made this known in a speech read on his behalf at a day sensitization workshop on Ghana Open Data Initiative in Tamale said, the intervention is in line with government`s efforts to provide accurate and timely information for public and private businesses to thrive and ensure transparency in governance.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

The Government Statistician, Dr. Philomena Nyarko said with the Ghana Open Data portal all information on government budgets can be accessed to promote transparency and accountability.

Dr. Nyarko encouraged stakeholders in data production to help patronize the Ghana open Data portal by identifying data sets in their institutions that could be included.
