Nana Addo stopped me from disciplining K. Agyepong – Paul Afoko

Suspended national chairman of the New Patriotic Party Paul Afoko has revealed that the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo prevented him from disciplining Kennedy Agyepong when he insulted fellow party members and some individuals in the country.

According to him, anytime he, as party chairman, decided to sanction the maverick Member of Parliament for attacking ethnic groups and individuals, the flagbearer will step in and frustrate his effort.

“His (Agyepong) reckless conduct and pronouncements are very damaging to the party and its fortunes…the party has members from every corner of the country but Agyepong gets up and spews hate speech against Ewes, Gas and Northerners. If you were NPP member from any of these ethnicities, how would you feel?http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

“This man gets up and calls fellow party members stupid. He goes on radio stations and even insults former President John Kufuor, the party’s living legend,” Afoko told the Africa Watch magazine.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

He disclosed also that the party’s acting chairman Freddie Blay on some occasions described Agyepong as a “gem” who must be left alone to continue with his good works for the party.

Afoko who is battling his suspension in court said he regrets not pushing his intended reforms in the party aggressively.

The Assin Central MP was arrested ahead of the 2012 elections for making comments perceived to be genocidal on his Accra-based radio station.
