His Macho Men Threaten Kwabena Agyapong’s Bodyguard

Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has not learnt any lesson from his two successive defeats especially, his political utterances “all-die-be-die” and becoming President ”at all cost”.
At the filing of his nomination form on Monday, he gave an indication that, Ghanaians are once again going to be treated to political gaffes, when the race to the presidency is declared in 2016 by Electoral Commission (EC).
At a rally he addressed at the NPP National headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, declared that “Akufo-Addo is the man for the future. Come high, come low we’re winning 2016,” suggesting he was going to win the 2016 Presidential election “at all cost” and through “all-die-be-die”.
The Herald was told about how Nana Addo’s bodyguards, during the filing process were reported to have threatened General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong’s bodyguard by name Frank, perhaps a fallout from the change of non-elected officers and security guards at the headquarters.
Some journalists including, a Japanese photojournalist with CitiFM had her dollars stolen. One other lady journalist with Breeze FM, also had her recorder stolen during the filing.
A statement from the Office of Nana Akufo-Addo said, he assured Ghanaians to take heart and keep faith because Ghana will work again if the NPP is voted into office in 2016.
He was the fourth person to file his nomination papers for the party’s 2014 presidential primary, as the party prepares for the December 2016 general elections.
Several NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) found time to accompany Nana Akufo-Addo to the party office from his Nima residence.
Large numbers of elated NPP members and sympathizers, thronged the headquarters of the party to show their support to the candidature of the man they believe can rescue Ghana from the economic hardships, despondency, widespread corruption and rising levels of unemployment the country finds itself in, under President Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Responding to the crowd, Nana Addo reiterated his commitment to leading a united NPP as a necessary condition to securing victory from the government of the NDC.
Nana Akufo-Addo, was met at the conference room of the party by the General Secretary, Mr. Agyepong, who after studying the papers and acknowledging receipt of the GH¢75,000 filing fee presented by Nana Akufo-Addo, accepted the nomination documents as duly filed.
He assured the General Secretary, he was going to abide by the rules and regulations of the primary, as set out by the party, and would also ensure that his supporters do likewise.
Addressing journalists gathered at the NPP headquarters, Akufo-Addo said that he could be trusted to serve the party well, and he has the vision and experience to inspire and lead the NPP into victory come 2016, adding that “Ghana will work again under my leadership.”
To ensure this becomes a reality, Akufo-Addo emphasized that the NPP has a dynamic and competent team to implement plans designed to transform the lives of the Ghanaian people and to develop in Ghana a free, democratic, modern African state – one that can hold its own in a competitive world.
Acknowledging the fact that Ghana currently finds herself in difficult times, with a battered and dispirited population, Akufo-Addo reminded NPP supporters that the entire nation is looking up to the NPP to offer the leadership that will rescue Ghana from a clueless and floundering NDC government.
“Let’s get together and get Ghana working again,” he admonished NPP supporters.
He assured the gathering that “the NPP is coming back to power in 2016, to continue from where President Kufuor left off.”
He urged NPP members to send the good news of the NPP’s return, assuring them that in 2016, NPP will not taste defeat again.
“Akufo-Addo is the man for the future. Come high, come low we’re winning 2016,” he added.
Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied by his running mate for the 2008 and 2012 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Sheikh I.C. Quaye, Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mustapha Abdul Hamid, Frema Opare Osei, and several MPs, including Hon. Sara Adjoa Safo, Daniel Titus Glover, Hon. Frank Annoh Dompreh, Hon. Isaac Asiamah, Hon. Henry Quartey, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and Hon. Gifty Klenam.
The others included: Aboagye Gyedu Kingey, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Moses Anim, Justice Joe Appiah, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, Solomon N. Boar, Henry Kokofu, Gifty Kusi,Kennedy Osei, Matthew Nyindam, Benito Owusu, Elizabeth Sackey, Sagre Bambani, Robert Sarfo-Mensah and Mustapha Yussif.
The crowd, which included several young men and women from Constituencies in the Greater Accra, danced and sang in joy.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign to seek the mandate of the over 140,000 delegates of the party, will commence after the party completes the vetting of flagbearer aspirants.
So far, the following individuals have also filed their nominations to contest the flagbearership race, they are: Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, former Minister of Information, under the erstwhile Kufuor government, Francis Addai Nimoh, MP for Mampong, in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Joe Ghartey, MP for Esikadu Kettan in the Western Region, Mr Osei Ameyaw, MP for Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku former MP for Offinso South and Alan Kwawdo Kyeremanten, former Minister of Trade and Industry.
