Naa Torshie faces suspension from NPP

Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mrs. Irene Naa Torshie, could face a possible suspension in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should she continue to make the NPP unpopular in the constituency, Today has gathered.

The intended action, Today established, follows a fresh suit filed at the Court of Appeal in Accra by two members of the NPP, Nana Yaw Ntim and Mr. Christian Joseph, who are perceived to be surrogates of the defeated Naa Torshie against the parliamentary candidate for the area, Mr. Carlos Ahenkorah, challenging his eligibility to contest the 2016 General Elections on the ticket of the NPP.

Plausible sources close to the Greater Accra Regional executives and Tema West constituency executives of the NPP revealed to Today that the party will consider dismissing members who take the party to court without exhausting the party’s internal structures.

The sources told Today that the executives of the party stressed that: “We believe that the time has come for the NPP to take stringent measures and decisions to dismiss people from this party, because we cannot continue going this way.”

“You have not exhausted the grievance channel of the NPP and you just go and file this kind of suit just to drag people up and down,” the source added.

Naa Torshie lost convincingly to Mr. Ahenkorah in the parliamentary primary but the out- of-favour MP is believed to have used surrogates in court to overturn the will of the people.

However, the court ruled that Mr. Ahenkorah was qualified to be the parliamentary candidate for the Tema West constituency, indicating that the NPP had handled the matter in a fair manner and had not defied neither its constitution nor the national constitution.
