My success will be measured by jobs created – Nana Addo

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that his government will be measured by the number jobs created during his tenure as head of State.

He made this comment at his first encounter with news editors held at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday (July 18, 2017).
He said he understands the frustrations of the unemployed youth in the country. “Their parents are even more anxious about the future of their children,” he added.

The President addressing his counterpart from Switzerland, Doris Leuthard said his government’s biggest challenge is the inadequate jobs for the youth of the country.

“Our biggest challenge is how to find work for our young people. Too many young people in Ghana, West African and the African Continent do not have work to do because our economies are not growing and expanding at a sufficient rate to absorb them” Akufo-Addo told the Swiss President.
The President marked six-months in office on July 7, 2017, with the country’s unemployment rate estimated at 5.20 percent.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service, this is a decline from last year’s which was 5.96 percent.
When asked how many jobs his administration has created since they took office he said 6 months in office is too short for them to tell how many jobs they have created.

But he was certain the measures his government has put in place will yield results as the days go by.
He said the inflation rate has dropped to 12.1 percent from 15.4 percent in December 2016, which is the lowest in four years.
“It is my hope and expectation that these statistics will soon translate into tangible results,” President Akufo-Addo added.
