My focus is to Transform Lives of NDC Women–Hajia Zaynab

Incumbent National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress( NDC) Hajia Zaynab Joyce Mahama, has declared that, she would work to transform lives of women and girls of the party, when re-elected to lead the women front at the national women delegate conference scheduled for October 20, this year.

According to her, her vision was not only to ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard, but to also empower them with skills development on various trade to be able to earn a living and rally behind the NDC.

“We will establish a skills development centres to train women for various trades and empower them to rally behind the National Democratic Congress.these centres will be manage by constituency women organizers and supervised by the regional women organizers,” she said.

As part of her women transformation agenda, she said a considerable number of financeas’ in the party have been lobbed and they agreed to assist in a micro-finance scheme policy she is introducing to support the women in their retail businesses.

Politically, she said, going into the 2020 general elections, she would in collaboration with national executives establish what she termed,” SPECIAL FEMALE FORCE ” that would play a role in spreading the gospel of NDC in the constituency and as well train to police ballot boxes as polling stations agents of the party.

In addition, she said, a substantial number of the women wing would also receive training in communication skills for specific discussions in the media, both electronic and the social media.

Hajia ZAYNAB who described herself as “humble and respectful” , added that, the women’s commissioners of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN ) members of the party would also be engaged whilst in school and after school for mentoring and participating in political activities.

The women front under her second term, she noted would receive intensive training and capacity building programmes to improve their understanding of the emerging political trend and how to tackle political discourse.

She further stated that, her long term vision is to put up accommodation facilities for the vulnerable young girls commonly known as “Kayayee” who migrated mostly from the Northern part of the country to the Cities in search of greener pastures.
Beside the housing facilities, she said the Kayayees, would also be put into skills training including dress making/ seamstress, soap making, bread baking and batik-tie-and dye.

She later told THE REPUBLIC in an interview that, her vision as national women’s organizer is to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.

“The principles of Hajia ZAYNAB, are to strive for: the advancement of the status of women, empowerment, opportunity for all, equality, development, peace, respect, and the advancement of women political participation,” she said.

The incumbent national women’s organizer who picked #1 on the ballot, therefore charged the women delegates to turn down financial inducement and material gifts and endorse her for the second term.

She promised to work for the interest of the women’s wing and to ensure the victory of NDC in 2020.

Politically, Ghanaian women are a negligible and undermined force, with little political involvement.

In the rural constituencies, they constitute the majority of the peasant labour force in the agricultural sector, while most of the others occupy the bottom of the occupational ladder and continue to be channelled into service and domestic occupations.
