Kennedy Agyapong Must Apologise To Women – Ladies Of Ghana Our Country Movement (Ghocom) Demands

THE ASIN CENTRAL MP MUST APOLOGISE TO WOMEN, LADIES OF GHANA OUR COUNTRY MOVEMENT (GHOCOM) DEMANDS

In Ghana today, when it comes to politics, it seems absolute truth is gradually becoming a rare commodity whilst morals are now being determined by popularity and political correctness than by the simple truth. Nonetheless, the truth needs to be told.

We GHOCOM LADIES have followed with pain, anger and dismay the bitter war of words trending between the Honorable Member of Parliament for Asin Central on the ticket of the new patriotic party,(NPP) Kennedy Agyapong and a lady popularly known as ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ in the media fraternity.

The feud could have passed as child’s play and considered as such had it not been involved with not just any ordinary person than a prominent legislator who among other things serves as the mouthpiece of a whole constituency including women.

Without going through the nitty gritty of the current altercation, available records show that this is not the first time the honorable Member of Parliament is raining verbal abuse on his fellow citizen for criticizing his criticisms.

We, however, take particular notice of this one not because the lady in question is a member of our group or an exceptional person but due to the fact that the choice of words by the MP are unprintable and considered as a form of violence against women in general.

The United Nations defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.”
Violence against women may result in isolation, inability to work, loss of wages and lack of participation in regular activities which to us goes against the promotion of women as a whole.

We are fully aware that the Member of Parliament for Asin Central on the ticket of the New Patriotic party Kennedy Agyapong is a Christian and would urge him to follow Jesus’ example on how women should be treated.

He should not forget his dual role as a husband and a member of parliament responsible to the people at home and in the society.

We would, therefore, like to use this medium to call on all women groups, the minister of Gender and Social Protection, Mrs Oye Lithur, the speaker of parliament, women’s wing in parliament, all women of all political parties, Women Rev. ministers, Queen mothers and all women including that of Kennedy Agyapong, stakeholders concern to condemned in no uncertain terms the excessive use of language by the honorable member of parliament against the woman.

It undermines women dignity, posing a threat to their security and highly passes as violence against women in general. We are not by this supporting what ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ had equally said or had done but you will all agree with us that two wrongs do not make one right, besides, the good old book describes women as weaker vessels and should be treated as such.

We therefore demand an immediate retraction and an apology from the Member of Parliament to women of this country.

Violence against women must stop.
