MTN Tops All In Tax Payments To Government

Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN), one of the leading operators of mobile telephony in the country, has emerged as the telecommunication operator that pays the highest taxes to the Government of Ghana (GoG).

The company’s quest to contribute to the economy of the country, is an indication that the company is a strong partner in the development of the economy.

According to the Ministry of Communications, MTN, has shown leadership in its operations in the country by building emotional bonds with its customers.

Since its establishment, the company some twenty years ago,it has made huge contributions to the resource base of the county.

The contributions of MTN to the national economy, is more than the provision of services and products in the country.

The company, has invested USD 2.5 billion into the economy since 2006 and this year willinvest $ 96 million to enhance network delivery.
MTN’s huge contributions to the economy came to light when the Deputy Minister of Communications; Mr. Ato Sarpong,, launched the twentieth anniversary celebration on the theme: “MTN @20: Two decades of brightening lives; enhancing a future of unlimited opportunities in Accra.

Mr. Sarpong, said the birth of Spacefon, some twenty years ago, changed the landscapes of mobile telephony in the country.

And this action opened the landscapes of telephony, created over 200 telephony space, 30 million telephony switches with five submarine cables in recent times.

According to him, the company, made it possible for over 35 million subscribers to get access to telecommunication and data services across the country.

He commended the management of the company for showing faith in the economy of the country.

On his part, Mr. Ebenezer Twum Asante, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, said by midyear, the company would launch its 4G LTE services for MTN subscribers to celebrate its anniversary.

According to him, when the company began operations in 1996, it was with a small staff of 20 including six Ghanaians.

But today, the company has 1, 919 employees, out of which 685 are direct employees, 57 are contract employees and 1177 are third party contractors he noted.

He explained that over the past decades, the company has evolved with different brands names including Spacefon Areeba, Areeba and MTN.

“Our tag lines also evolved from ‘communication for the nation ‘’ to ‘the heart of your world and finally to everywhere you go

This came with a vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers, operating in a digital world that supports most aspects of the way we, like the rest world”, he noted
