Morgan Heritage beats Rocky Dawuni to Grammy Award

Ghanaian musician, Rocky Dawuni lost on his bid to become the first Ghanaian and African to win the Best Reggae Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards.

The ‘African Thriller’ performer lost out to band Morgan Heritage. Jah Cure, Barrington Levy and Luciano were also vying for the same award.

Dawuni was nominated for his album ‘Branches Of The Same Tree’. He made history as the first Ghanaian to be nominated at the awards scheme, which is in its 58th year.

Morgan Heritage is a Reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan, namely Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan.

The event held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in the United States of America was hosted by LL Cool J.
