More Corruption scandals hit Akufo-Addo’s government – FFG

Osman Rahim Hassan, President of Finder’s Forum Ghana (FFG) says President Akufo Addo is likely to suffer more corruption perception than what happened to former President Mahama if his corrupt appointees are let off the hook.

‘’If care is not taken (based on the rise of the corruption perception index), corruption perception will become more visible in his (Akufo Addo) government than what happened in Mahama’s administration,’’, he observed.

His comment came as a backdrop to former moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey’s vehement outburst against the Presidents leadership style.

Speaking at a Public Lecture on ‘the corruption canker in Ghana’, in Kumasi, the former moderator said Akufo Addo’s government has been less responsive to recent corruption scandals in the country.

He queried the President to make a public statement on the recent Fiat Panda scandal that hit the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

This follows a report by The Herald which revealed that, “the Office of The President, acting through the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) is purchasing 1,800 over aged Fiat Panda vehicles from a private company with a dubious financial capacity.”

Speaking with Samuel Huntor on ‘Pampaso’ on Radio Gold, the anti-corruption crusader noted with disgust that the President’s attitude towards the fight against corruption is extremely worrying.

‘’This government has not made any convincing attempt to fight corruption…I don’t understand why we should be waiting for Special Prosecutor before corruption is tackled –whiles we have Attorney General’’.

‘’Article 88 (3) will clearly tell you what should be done. If care is not taken to amend the already existing section of the constitution, the special prosecutor is only coming to disturb and create problems for the Attorney General… what we need to realize as a country is that tackling corruption does not depend on the office of a Special Prosecutor,’’ he lamented.

He however warned that if immediate measures are not put in place to stop the skyrocketing deceit and corruption that is secretly festering in this administration, Ghanaians will soon fall out of love with Akufo Addo.
