Ministry Of Finance Gives GES Clearance To Recruit Trained Teachers For New SHSs

The Ghana Education Service has been given clearance by the Ministry of Finance to recruit trained teachers to man the progressively free day Senior High School facilities built all over the country.

In all, more than two thousand trained teachers have been short-listed out of eight thousand applicants.

Those shortlisted will write a selection test on Saturday 21st of this month at WAEC centres in all the ten regions.ghanapoliticsonline.com

Speaking to us, the PRO of the GES, Rev Jonathan Bettey said the recruitment is laying emphasis on Mathematics, Science and English Language qualified teachers.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, David Ofori Acheampong says the Association wholeheartedly accepts the new policy that compels teachers to undergo a year’s induction course after completing training at the colleges of education.

The course is to streamline the teaching profession. Mr Acheampong said they are waiting for modalities for which members have to get the special license.

He said the license will make them professional and enhance their image.

In a related development, a former Director General of GES, Michael Nsowah suggests broader consultation on the licensing of teachers.

President of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana, Sampson Targbo, said they are not in favour of the induction course.

He said there is no objectivity in the policy as it will be a tool to victimize teachers.
