Marwako supervisor sentenced to 9 months in jail

The Abeka District Court has sentenced the supervisor of the Abelemkpe branch of Marwako restaurant to nine months in prison for assault and causing harm.

Twenty-six year old Jihad Chabaan was found guilty of the charge after shoving the face of an employee of the restaurant Evelyn Boakye into blended pepper and detaining her in a locked room with the pepper on her face for over six hours.

The court presided over by Magistrate Victoria Ghansah pronouncing judgement said the prosecution had proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the accused indeed committed the offence being levelled against him.

She consequently convicted him of one count each of causing harm and assault. Jihad Chabaan was sentenced to nine months for causing harm and six for assault. The jail terms will run concurrently.

The Magistrate before handing down the sentence rejected the terms of an out of court settlement presented by the lawyer for the accused.
