It’s been exactly 9 months since the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku announced the appointment of music producer Mark Okraku Mantey, daughter of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo and actress Bibi Bright as President, Director and Secretary respectively to the Creative Arts Council.
According to what I gather, the team as part of its terms of reference was to embark on a road-show across the country to nominate members that would make up the Creative Arts Council.
Their mandate also included selecting veterans in the industry to form a five-member governing board, which would guide the activities of the Council.
Truth be told, virtually nothing has been heard of the council (which I believe is being paid) since its announcement but for Mark Okraku Mantey’s appearance at the Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Music Right Organization where he announced that the government of Ghana intends building an ultra modern recording studio for musicians and an arts village.
It therefore comes as one of the many jokes when President of the council, Mark Okraku Mantey in a recent interview reveals the council will be wear the suit of investigators in the allegations raised against franchise owners of the Miss Ghana Pageant, Exclusive Events and its owner Inna patty.
I mean since when did the council become an investigative body? What actually happened to the terms of reference which asks that they embark on a road-show across the country to nominate members that would make up the Creative Arts Council? What happened to nominating members that would make up the Creative Arts Council.
Does the council even have that power to turn an investigative council?
Anyway, below is a letter addressed to the president of the council.
Hello Mark Okraku Mantey,
No need to ask how you are doing since I know very well you are good.
I have read publications that suggest you and your council (Creative Arts Council) intend investigating the accusations leveled against organizers of Miss Ghana and Ms Inna Patty.
In as much as I so much wish we get to the bottom of these accusations since they are serious and damning, I wish to know how the creative arts council comes in here? It’s been several months since your council was instituted and I don’t know what exactly your job description is. It seems there are just too many things to touch.
Would this not be the best time to explain to us your job description since you intend becoming “INVESTIGATORS” or perhaps ADHOC INVESTIGATORS.
Anyway, the last we heard of your office was at the GHAMRO Annual General Meeting at KNUST where you stated that the government intends building an ultra modern recording studio for musicians and an arts village.
Pardon my ignorance but how far with them? How far with your resolution to help pass the Creative Arts Bill? Still in the pipeline as the politicians say?
