Make me a good leader – Akufo-Addo prays

President Nana Addo Danakwa Akufo-Addo has prayed to God to give him wisdom, humility and strength to serve the people of Ghana effectively.

Speaking at a thanks-giving ceremony to mark the one-year anniversary of the 2016 elections which saw the New Patriotic Party (NPP) come to power, President Akufo-Addo said: “I continue to seek his prayer that he gives me wisdom, that he gives me strength, that he gives me compassion and humility so that I can be a good leader for his Ghanaian flock.”

He added: “We said the Battle is the Lord’s. The Battle is still the Lord’s as we try to build our Ghana. May God bless us all, may God bless our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong.”

Mr Akufo-Addo, secured 53.85 per cent of the valid votes cast to become Ghana’s fifth president under the fourth Republic, beating his closest rival, then-incumbent John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.

The NPP promised Free SHS, a factory per district, jobs, restoration of allowances for teachers and nurses in training, $1 million per constituency, a dam per farming village in the three regions up north, and the setting up of a Zongo Development Fund.

Several dignitaries including Justice William Atuguba, Members of Parliament, members of the clergy, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, attended the ceremony.
