Maintenance Of Stadia Must Be Outsourced To Private People – Nii Lantey Vanderpuije

The Minister-designate for Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, has proposed that the maintenance of the various stadia across the country must be outsourced to private people.

It is an open secret that the state of the Accra Sports Stadium and the other stadia used for the CAN 2008 have been deteriorating. This worrying situation has been trumpeted by many radio stations, TV stations and other news portals.

The pitches of the various stadia have also been a major worry to football fans and some players, who claim the pitches at the various stadia do not match international standard.

Currently the National Sports Authority (NSA) is responsible for the management and maintenance of all stadia in Ghana.

But answering questions at his vetting Monday by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, the former deputy Local Government Minister said he will ensure that the maintenance of the various stadia is no more managed by the NSA.

“The National Sports Authority must concern themselves with the development of Sports in Ghana and the maintenance of the Stadia must be outsourced to the estate agencies…and people with requisite knowledge,” the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency said.

Vanderpuije also indicated his willingness to implement the Maputo committee report.

The report was as the results of investigations after the 2011 All Africa games held in Mozambique.

According to Vanderpuije, he would do everything within his power to put the controversy surrounding the Maputo report to rest.
