MAHAMA’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO ASHANTI UNMATCHED, IGNORE AKUFFO ADDO

We have read, on many news portals, recent comments made by Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, attempts to wave off the monumental and life-improving projects the region has seen so far under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

In a move one can at best, describe as disingenuous, the NPP leader claims the President has “abandoned ” Ashanti Region with respect to development projects.

We wish to remind the NPP and it’s twice failed leader that the projects embarked on by the John Mahama government in Ashanti and Ghana in general are par excellence.

In the mean time, the following projects will suffice :

1.The rehabilitation of the Kumasi Shoe factory which is directly employing about 200 youth.

2.Completion of the first phase of 30 kilometres of Kumasi town roads including the famous Abawa Ruth road in the Minority Leader’s constituency.

On the specific case of the Sofoline road as mentioned by Nana Addo, it is laughable to say the least. The NDC met this said project at 20% and as we speak, users of that stretch of road can confirm that it is about 96% complete. It is significant to state that this road is a GoG funded project; no funds were sitting down for its continuoution from the NPP government.

Again, His Excellency, the President a recent tour of Ashanti inspected a number of ongoing road constructions in Asawase and other areas.

3.Provision of potable water. Asanteman has over the past few years witnessed a number of water projects. The Asante Mampong water projected is currently supplying about 80,000 households which hitherto, suffered from a chronic acute water shortage for almost two decades. The Barekese dam too has seen an expansion, resulting in an additional 8 million gallons a day. The Kumawu,Konongo and Kwawu water project is over 70% complete.

4.Hospitals. There is a 500 bed military hospital which is undergoing construction at Afari. The 250 bed Sewua hospital is at the roofing level. There is also the Tepa and Fomena district hospitals which are near completion among others in the region.

5 . Education. While the JM track record across all levels of the educational layers remain supernormal, the construction of 13 Community Day Mahama S.H.S in the region will make our case for now.

So far, two of these schools have been commissioned at Adobewora and Adugyama in the Atwima Mponua and the Ahafo-Ano South Districts respectively. It is worthy of note that the 13 schools in Ashanti will give about 20, 000 children the opportunity for secondary education when completed.

6.The New Edubiase Stadium. The President, few days ago ,cut a sod for the construction of an ultra – modern Sports Stadium for the good people of Adansi. This stadium can host a minimum of 10,000 sports fans and officials at a go.

7.Kumasi Airport. The Kumasi International Airport, which previously, was collapsing, saw a massive rehabilitation under President John Dramani Mahama. Hitherto, it was impossible for aircrafts to set off or land at night. The rehabilitation has now made it possible travelling at all times with the attendant advantages to the business community.

8.Kejetia and other market projects. The Kejetia market construction is progressing at a galloping rate. The $298 million project is currently giving direct employment to over 300 Ghanaians including but not limited to masons, carpenters, steel benders etc.

This market comes with other important facilities such as Fire Station, Clinic, Police Station and a Crèche for the babies of the traders among others.

Aside from this project, there are other big markets at Tafo, Asawase,Atonso, Abuakwa etc. It is refreshing to note that some of these markets have been roofed, with others ready for use within the next few days.

The NDC in Ashanti finds Nana Addo’s fathom one district, one factory as another comic relief akin to Free SHS campaign has suddenly absconded from.

In Nana Addo’s Kyebi, it took His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama to provide them with potable water some few months ago. This was an area the NPP flagbearer represented as an MP for 12 years. Not even was he able to demonstrate ability to resolve the basic challenges of his people when he became a cabinet minister for almost 8 years. How can such a person promise factories?

It is important to mention that all the projects under the Mahama government do not only make life easy for the areas they are sited, they have and continue to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs within their value chain. It would therefore, be unfortunate for Mr . Akuffo Addo to conclude that Ashanti has been abandoned on the face of the unparalleled infrastructural developments given this region.

We therefore, call on all Ghanaians especially, Asanteman, to ignore the desperation of the NPP leader and continue their unalloyed support for the good works of President John Dramani Mahama.
