President John Dramani Mahama will today inaugurate the multimillion dollar Accra Mudor Fecal Treatment Plant at the infamous Lavender Hill, Korle-Gonno to begin the process to halt the dumping of raw human excreta in the sea.
Lavender Hill has been blight on the conscience of city officials who have continuously labored to find a way of preventing the dumping of raw sewer into the sea and the inauguration of the fecal treatment plant will make Lavender Hill a thing of the past.
Conducting journalists around the facility yesterday, officials of the facility said the project is expected to begin mainstream treatment in the next 2-3 months due to the facility’s use of biological organisms in some of the treatment process.
When it begins full production, the facility is expected to cater for at least 200 trucks of raw human excreta.
The two new plants, Faecal Treatment Plant and the Mudor Waste Water Treatment Plant built under a public-private partnership arrangement between government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited is estimated at $65 million.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Jospong and Zoomlion Groups of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong the project’s first phase will generate one megawatt of power, which will be consumed by the two plants while the second, will then generate upto 7.5 megawatts of power.
