Lordina Mahama gives ultra sound scanner to La Hospital

The Ministry of Health has received an Ultrasound Machine on behalf of the Lordina Foundation from Siemens Africa for use at the La General Hospital.

Speaking at the ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, the Minister for Health, Hon. Alex Segbefia said the ultrasound machine will help in the diagnoses of pregnancy related abnormalities which could have been missed till delivery and resulting in unexpected emergencies.

With the device, every pregnancy will be scanned at least three times during pregnancy to enable the clinicians to plan the delivery ahead of time to reduce maternal death.

Hon. Alex Segbefia said, government in an uncompromising way has re-dedicated itself to ensure a healthier population with reduced maternal and infant mortality.

The Minister revealed that mobilization of resources for sustaining the installed base of medical equipment has become extremely difficult under the current economic climate, where both government and private sector budgets face a difficult battle for finite resources.

On her part, the Chief Executive Officer for southern and Eastern Siemens, Sabine Dall’omo, said the ultrasound unit would improve diagnostic imaging of patients, support the hospital’s everyday clinical requirements and contribute to affordable and accessible healthcare to Ghanaian citizens.

Sabine Dall’omo indicated that Siemens has also announced further investment in gas and steam projects in Ghana over the next three to five years which together with project partners will add hundreds of Mega Watt to the national power grid.
