’ll drag EC to court, if it fails to crack the whip – Ayariga

Hassan Ayariga, leader and founder of the All People’s Party (APC) has threatened to sue the EC should it fail to crack the whip on political parties who have not met the requirement of getting two-thirds of district offices across the country.

Ayariga says he does not fathom why his APC, which started operation not long ago, could strive to fulfill all the requirement of the law in relation to the operation of a political party while the so-called bigger parties will flout such a key aspect of the law.

“It is a constitutional mandate, and if the EC does not crack the whip, I Hassan Ayariga will personally take them to court. The Political parties must be very serious; Ghanaians want serious political parties, so we should behave,” Ayariga told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM on Thursday.

He claims by law his APC remains the only party that has fulfilled the requirement of the law having established offices across the country in about 250 areas, including 10 regional offices and a National Headquarters.

For him, most of the political parties in the past failed to submit to these requirements because the former Chairperson of the election management body treated the parties with kids glove.

The Electoral Commission has warned it will withdraw certificates of political parties without district offices by the end of May.

According to the EC laws governing the registration of political parties in Ghana, all parties must have district offices in order to reflect their regional representation and balance.
