Late Shai-Doku NDC aspirant’s wife to contest seat

Widow of late NDC parliamentary candidate for Shai-Osudoku has declared her intention to contest the position left vacant by her deceased husband.

Linda Akweley Ocloo, wife of the late lawmaker aspirant, William Ocloo has officially declared her intention to contest the seat, a week after her husband’s burial.

However, she says she is already under pressure from forces within the party to step downhttp://ghanapoliticsonline.com

‘’The elders came to me with a proposal to contest. When they brought the issue to me, I called my eldest daughter and informed her. She said I should make her daddy proud by stepping in on his behalf,” said Mrs. Ocloo.

She said when the constitutency exectutives came to her for an answer, she told them she was interested.

“No one convinced me. You can force a horse to the riverside. But you cannot force it to drink,’’ Mrs. Ocloo told Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah.
According to her, she is not in the race expectating to benefit from sympathy votes.

“I know what Ocloo has done for his people. So they are not going to vote for me just because Ocloo is not around. No. They will do so because they believed in him and they believe in me as well,’’ she said

The wife of the late parliamentary candidate dismisses concerns about the timing of her decision.

‘’There is no time to waste because I know Ocloo’s opponents are there campaigning. So the last thing I want to see is Ocloo crying because he really suffered for his people. I am mourning but the kind of insults that people are raining on me is unbearable. I am already receiving text messages from people within the party to step down.’’

Mrs. Akweley Ocloo has already received massive backing from constituency executives in Shai-Osudoku.

William Ocloo died in an accident at Atwedie close to Juaso on the Kumasi to Accra road in March.
