KMA consults deities on assembly elections

The Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Godwin Nyame, has disclosed that the assembly is in consultation with deities to revoke curses that have stalled the election of a presiding member for the assembly.

The election which was scheduled to come off on Friday was cancelled because the curses have not been revoked

The KMA has on two occasions failed to elect a presiding member, stalling operations of the newly constituted assembly.

The process was marred by the invocation of curses among factions who have openly declared their allegiance to the two major political parties including the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Two elected members of the assembly, Elliot Fosu Bannor, alias Pulele, Assemblyman for Kuwait-Aprabon Electoral Area and Lawrence Adu, Assemblyman for Afful Nkwanta stormed the premises of KMA with bottles of Schnapps and eggs to invoke curses.

In an interview with Ultimate news, the PRO of the Assembly indicated that the assembly is appalled by the conduct of the errant assembly members.

Mr. Nyame explained that the delay has had some dire operational consequences on the running of the assembly.

‘If you will recall few weeks ago due to the election of this presiding member, some people decided to invoke curses on some of the assembly members concerning the election of the presiding member, then after which some other assembly members also came to do same, so as I speak the assembly’s position is that we are in consultation with Nananom. They have come in for us to revoke that curse, as soon as that is done, we will be able to hold the general assembly election that will elect the presiding member,’ he assured.

He intimated that the assembly works in a traditional environment, hence the need to consult them on the curses.

‘We work within [a] traditional environment, because of this issue, a meeting came and we had to re-schedule it, the KMA is working assiduously in consultations with Nananom to ensure that the curse is revoked,’ he expressed hope.
