Klottey Korle: Osu youth reject rerun of NPP primaries

The Osu Youth  Development Association has cautioned the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from attempting to rerun the party’s parliamentary primary in the Klottey Korle constituency.

According to them they already have a parliamentary candidate in the person of Nii Noi Nortey.

“We want to state emphatically that we the youth have lived and worked with Nii Noi Nortey and we trust in him. That is why we supported his ambition, because we believe that in him our needs as Youth of Osu will be met.”

One of the agitated aspirants who boycotted the previous primary, Philip Addison claims he has information that the election will be held again.

His posters have thus been plastered throughout the constituency.

But the Osu Youth in a statement say they will resist any attempt by the party to rerun the election saying “We will not allow him [Nii Noi Nortey] to contest for any rerun, he went for the elections and won. That’s where it ends. He has managed to bring us all on board to help him win the general elections.”

They claimed that despite the court issues prior to the election, they were calm because, Nii Noi Nortey “told us to relax and allow the party structures to work. During the court issue, he still kept us calm.”

“We want to state here that Nii Noi Nortey is a true son of Osu and a grandson of late Osu Mantse (Nii Owuo II) and therefore any attacks on him is an attack on the whole people of Osu. We will not allow him to contest for any rerun, he went for the elections and won. That’s where it ends. He has managed to bring us all on board to help him win the general elections.”

The Osu youth noted that if this is how the NPP will treat Nii Nortey after all the resources he invested to see the party become appealing in the area, “then we will be forced to believe that the NPP is not for the youth and the indigenenous people of Osu.”

“Throughout history, we have never had an indigenous person from Osu to represent us in Parliament. Let this statement sound as a warning to all the leadership of NPP that, if you touch Nii Noi Nortey then you have touched the whole youth of Osu and we will follow and support him only when it comes to elections.”

They also claimed that Nii Noi Nortey is the best person to lead them and thus called on the “National Youth Organiser of the NPP and Greater Accra Youth Organiser and the Constituency Youth Organiser of the NPP to come together to support our brother Nii Noi Nortey or face our wrath as youth come.”
