KENNEDY AGYAPONG MUST APOLOGISE TO WOMEN, WOMEN WING OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS DEMAND

The women wing of Young Professionals have noted the scanty and unwarranted attacks on the Electoral Commissioner Mrs. Charlotte Osei by the Member of Parliament for Assin North, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong.

We have noted the unsavory comments on her person to the effect that she used her womanhood to obtain the position she holds at the Commission.

We see this unfortunate attack on the person of Mrs. Charlotte Osei as an attack on all women and see it a duty to attach our voice to calls by those who have spoken up until now for the Honourable Member to do the honourable thing by apologising to Mrs. Charlotte Osei and to all women of this country.

We have noted the efforts women all over the world are putting to achieve status in society amidst stiff opposition from some men.

Comments like the one vituperated by the honourable Member of Parliament for Assin North are unfortunate and draws back the long standing efforts by women over the years to change perceptions of the general public in their numerous struggles.

We are indeed taken aback that the said individual is a member of Parliament, a legislator who sits and passes laws that are to ensure the advancement of the interests of women in society.

It is worrying that up to today, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has still not found its voice to condemn these unsavory comments coming from their member of parliament. It leaves us with one question; does the NPP respect the dignity of women at all? If they do, we demand an immediate condemnation of this unfortunate comments from Kennedy Agyapong.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

We are, through this statement, calling on the honourable Member of Parliament to retract his comments and apologise to the person of Mrs. Charlotte Osei and women in general for the unfortunate comments on womanhood.

We call on all women groups as well as men who believe in the advancement of gender equality to join in calls to get the honourable member apologise for what appears a trait that has constantly been exhibited.
