Kayayeis Swerve Nana Addo…….Declare Support for Mahama

Scores of head Porters in the Kejetia market of the Ashanti Regional Capital have declared their intention of voting massively for the Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December polls.

The porters mostly young girls said Mahama is their choice, saying he is their kinsman and therefore have declared their unflinching support for his second term.

‘We will vote for John Mahama, because we like him,’ porters from Savelugu said.

Their latest stance is however quite surprising considering how National president of the Head Porters’ Association, Adiza Zongo Pioneer, stated that she and her members across the country would vote massively for the NPP in the presidential and the parliamentary polls.

At the Abbey’s Park in the Manhyia South Constituency, Adiza Zongo Pioneer stressed that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP leader, is the only hope for the country in the December elections.

Adiza assured that she and her group would campaign in their own way to help the party to oust the non-performing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government this year.

Scores of young girls mostly in their teens who hail from the Northern region travel down to Kumasi to carry people’s goods during vacation to settle their school fees.

‘We are students from Tamale here to work so that we can get something to pay our school fees,’ the Kayayos explained.

Speaking to Abusua News’ Akua Adepa, the porters complained that they suffer body aches when they carry the loads.

According to the girls who sleep 15 persons per room at Aboabo, they are working assiduously to generate income to further their education.

They revealed that their daily pay check is between GHC8.00 and GHC10.00, saying they pay a tax of 50pesewas.

‘Sometimes you can get GHC100 or GHC150.00, sometimes we pity ourselves, some of us want to go to nursing school and others teacher training colleges, after completion of school,’ they expressed hope.

They indicated that there is no job in their hometown, hence their decision to do the menial work at Kejetia.

One of the girls who was heavily pregnant, Sadia complained that she easily gets tired when carrying loads.

‘I don’t have money so I have not been going for antenatal care,’ she said.

They called on the government to support their education.
