Presidential debates afford candidates the opportunity to provide informative, concise summaries of their major policy positions and viewpoints in a single evening. Debates require candidates to be able to think on their feet and be able to respond to unanticipated events; this provide one of the few indicators as to how a presidential candidate might respond under pressure.
Given that Nana Akufo-Addo has for many times tagged people as incompetent, this week’s presidential debate under the auspices of NCCE and GBC is a perfect platform for him to prove his competence to the whole world. But it looks like Akufo-Addo is going to run away from this debate as he has done many times this year.
He must attend the event because I have the following questions for him:
1. Why is he intending to relocate the capital of Ghana from Accra to Kyebi if he becomes president?
2. Why did he receive US$100,000 from the brother of the President, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, and yet blamed and caused the suspension of some party executives purported to have received favours from the same person?
From the look of things Nana Akufo-Addo is not going to take part in the debate, something that has caused a lot of disappointment to the electorate, especially floating voters. Their suspicion that Nana can’t stand on his feet for 15 minutes is being confirmed, and they are worried about how Nana Akufo-Addo can address the UN if elected as president.
But whatever the case, Nana must go to the event to answer those questions above. If push comes to shove I go put am for aboboyaa inside go dump am for there. He can’t swerve the people of Ghana this time around. Walahi talahi, I no go gree.
