Justice Dery petitions Mahama over “death threat” on him

Embattled High Court Judge Justice Paul Dery has petitioned President John Mahama to direct an investigation into alleged death threat on him published on the Facebook page of the Daily Graphic newspaper.

In a letter to the President, Justice Dery quotes the Facebook comment in which according to him justifies the execution of some three high court judges by the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) in 1982.

“This man’s intransigence is making some of us revise our notes on Amartey Kwei and Co’s killing of the three high court judges and the retired army officer. For how long will these legal gymnastics last?” Justice Dery quoted the comment made on the Daily Graphic newspaper Facebook account as saying.

The trouble Judge says he feels threatened by the above statement by one Cephas Kumah.

“I am therefore requesting that you use your esteemed office to cause investigations to be conducted into that threat. I hope and pray that you would expeditiously act on this petition as I fear for my life,” he petitioned.

Justice Dery is among some 12 superior court judges allegedly caught taking bribes in an exposé on judicial corruption.
