Judges jailed Montie 3 to stabilize Ghana ahead of polls – Bature

Managing Editor of The AL-hAJJ, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu has said the decision of the supreme court to throw the Montie FM contemnors into jail was done dispassionately to stabilize the country ahead of the 2016 elections.

Alhaji Bature contends that the happenings within the last five months in the lead up to the December polls, gives credence to the fact that excessive abuse and insults were taken over politics in the country.

“What happened is not about any political party.The Judges are human beings and they live in Ghana; they’d seen everything going on in the country. I can tell you that from my little research conducted and the investigations on the the matter, the Judges took the decision and arrived at their ruling based on the need for peace and stability ahead the crucial elections,” Alhaji Bature told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

According to him, pitching the executive against the judiciary is “reckless and senseless at the highest order”, and must not be entertained eventhough the jailing of the three is harsh.

“If there is conflict between the executive and the judiciary, it means our democracy is not only threatened, but the stability and peace of this country is even more threatened,” he added

For him, Mahama yielding to the pressure by his own people and invoking his prerogative of mercy powers guaranteed under Article 72 to free the three would cost the NDC party ahead of the elections.

“What needs to be done now is to console the convicted persons, but not to tie the hand of the president in this matter.If you keep on piling pressure on him, it is the NDC and the government that is likely to suffer,” he said.

Several government appointees and Ministers have signed the petition book opened to firm up support for the release of the Montie FM contemnors incarcerated by the Supreme court.

The Ga Traditional Council has also joined the action calling on President John Dramani Mahama to pardon the Montie FM contemnors.

The three are serving a four-month jail term for contempt after they were found guilty by the Supreme court for scandalising the apex court and also bringing its name into disrepute when they threatened to kill justices of the bench.
