Joint Military And Police Team Arrive In Portor Over Renewed Clashes

A team of military and police personnel have arrived in Portor a community in the Brong Ahafo region following renewed chieftaincy clashes in the area which led to the death of one person and the burning of eight houses.

An age old chieftaincy dispute was reignited last week when a chief of one of the feuding factions returned, leading to a gun battle between the factions.

The Sunyani police command has subsequently arrested the chief and five elders of one of the feuding factions.

According to reports, residents in the community have fled the area for fear that what started as a misunderstanding between the two sides may degenerate.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo North, Michael Baffoe, said the security personnel have invited the leadership of the two feuding faction to a meeting in Sunyani for an amicable resolution.

The Regional Crime Officer, Alhaji Mahama Arhin, said the team has some names of those who instigated the whole confusion and are in the process of arresting them.
