The Paramount Chief of Sefwi wiaso Traditional Area (SWTA) in the Western Region, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II has described as unprecedented in the country, the level of infrastructure projects executed by the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the traditional ruler, the level of development projects recorded under the Mahama regime demonstrates his might and leadership qualities.
“You cannot underrate the unprecedented infrastructure projects President John Dramani Mahama provided nationwide. Unfortunately, despite all these visible projects recorded by the government, the party (NDC) failed to drum home adequate information, the good message of these unprecedented infrastructure projects to Ghanaian electorates” he said
Addressing members of the newly elected executive of NDC in Western Region during a courtesy call on him at his palace on Sunday, the tough talking overlord of Sefwi said the party would have to work hard to address this issue.
“You must develop the culture of communicating your achievements to Ghanaians”, he urged.
He explained that under no circumstance, would anyone volunteer to carry the good message of the party to the Ghanaian electorates except members of the NDC who are committed to spread the news to the people.
According to the traditional ruler, President John Dramani Mahama did not suffer defeat during the 2016 elections because of non performance, but because the party failed to spread his achievements.
Aside that, he explained that the conduct of the youth of the party which despised many electorates contributed.
The lack of connection between lawmakers of the party and the grassroot following, he acknowledged, equally played an unbearable role in causing the downfall of the party.
He said although people often say traditional rulers are not supposed to do politics because of the constitutional restrictions, but that doesn’t prevent them from making valuable contributions towards national development.
Describing the former President as his good friend, he said he was excited when President John Mahama announced his come back with the promise to write the wrongs of the past.
Under the circumstance, he said he, Mahama must be prepared to factor into account the aforementioned observations made.
He advised Members of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC to constantly connect with the grassroots in order to understand the sentiments of the people, support in addressing challenges facing them and their communities.
“The concerns of the electorates are your concerns and therefore you cannot stay in Accra and expect them to continue to entrust you with their mandate” he posited.
Again, he advised politicians in Western Region to stop meddling in chieftaincy affairs, with emphasis on acts aiming at undermining their authority.
According to him, meddling in chieftaincy affairs would not only cost the individual involved but his party and their electoral fortunes because chiefs are custodians of the land.
The newly elected Regional Chairman, Nana Kwadwo Toku, in response to the concerns raised by the chief, promised to carry the message to the top echelon of NDC to be addressed.
He assured the traditional ruler of his commitment to work with chiefs in the Region. He said he would offer them a listening ear, guide the youth against any misconduct towards traditional rulers.
He promised to also work with his team to bridge the gap between NDC and all relevant stakeholders in the Western Region.
Nana Toku was accompanied to the palace by all the elected regional executive of the NDC.
They are, Japhet Baidoo, Regional Organizer, Joseph Nelson, Regional Secretary, Captain rtd Anthony Cudjoe, Regional Vice Chairman, Gladys Egyin, Regional Women Organizer, Kankam Darkwa, Regional Vice Chairman.
The others are, Charles Kojo Adu-Fordjour, Deputy Regional Secretary, Thomas Asienae, Deputy Regional Organizer, Richard Kirk Mensah, Regional Communication Officer, Ebenezer Essien, Deputy Regional Communications Officer, Deputy Regional Treasurer, Daniel Darlington, Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Hafizu Alasco among others.
