John Mahama to announce Running Mate in July

Information available to Ghanapoliticsonline.com and Newspaper is that the former president of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is set to announce his running mate in the coming days.

There have been lots of debates and speculation on who the former president will be choosing as his partner to run on the ticket of the main opposition National Democratic Congress as many has predicted names with expectations that those names will be mentioned.

In the former president’s last address to the nation last week, he hinted of being aware of who his veep will be and that he is in consultation with the party’s structures on his choice of a running mate.

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama who has been under pressure from his opponents and some lobbyist is said to have long been working hand in hand with his veep but have kept the big announcement in silence because the nation is still battling COVID-19.

Sources close to the former president reveal that the running mate is not likely to be a woman but rather a man with high societal respect.

There were initial reports that senior female members of the NDC including former Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, former Education Minister Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman and Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong were being considered as for the running mate slot but there have been vehement rejections of the female idea from the upper echelons of the party including the Council Elders.

The sources also describe the supposed running mate with a solid economic and political background with a regional balance base but decided to put the name on hold.

Apart from the naming of the president running mate, the NDC is also expected to name their campaign team members in early July, next week before the official launch of the party’s manifesto.
