‘Indiscipline is NPP’s problem; we are now going by law’

Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party has admitted that the major problem facing the party is indiscipline and they have resolve to uproot it.

According to Nana Akomea the party tried a number of solutions, including negotiations and arbitration but all that failed.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme, Saturday, Akomea said the party is now going by the law to end the state of lawlessness and indiscipline in the party.

The NPP over the last few months has made all the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Disagreements between key party officials have culminated into violent exchanges, two of which have led to the deaths of two people.

As a result, the party has decided to suspend its National Chairman Paul Afoko. Two other national officers-The General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and 2nd Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe have their fates hanging ominously in the balance with suspensions looking more likely.

Addressing the issue on Newsfile, Nana Akomea said contrary to speculations that Kwabena Agyepong has been suspended, the Disciplinary Committee has met over the matter but is yet to take a decision.

He said Kwabena Agyepong cooperated with the Committee and that will be factored in the decision that will be made against him.

On the contrary, he was bemused about the posture of the 2nd Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe.

He said at best, Crabbe could have shown respect to the Committee by appearing before it, instead of stating publicly that he would not appear before the committee because it lacked the authority to invite him.

Whether he appears or not, Akomea said the Committee will take a decision like it did with Afoko and that will be communicated to Sammy Crabbe in due course.

Kweku Baako Jnr who was on the Newsfile panel applauded the decision by the party’s General Secretary to cooperate with the Committee, describing it as a complete mitigation for him.

The Crusading Guide Newspaper Editor-in-chief said he had picked up information that the Committee had initially considered a unanimous suspension for Agyepong but with his apologetic posture, the committee may reconsider its decision.

But another panel member Felix Kwakye Ofosu described the spate of suspension in the NPP as nothing more than vendetta by loyalists of Nana Akufo-Addo against persons who appear to be critical of the party’s flagbearer.

He wondered why Afoko, Agyepong and Crabbe have been lined up for suspension whilst the party’s Treasurer Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah is still at post.

He claimed Abankwa Yeboah has done similar things, if not worse, and yet no disciplinary action has been taken against him.
