Luqman Abubakari, a gentleman who has been described as an imposter NUGS President by the National Secretariat of the National Union of Ghanaian Student (NUGS) has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court granted him bail in the sum of GHC 10,000 with two sureties on Friday, 14th October 2016.
The imposter, Luqman Abubakari, was arrested by the police after he allegedly hired thugs to abduct NUGS President elect Julian M. Cobbinah at the premises of TV3 when Julian Cobbinah in the company of the Chief Justice of NUGS went to TV3 for an interview on Tuesday 11 October 2016.
This followed a development where Lukman had been erroneously hosted on tv3 a week before as the NUGS President.
Luqman is a fraud – NUGS Secretariat
According to Paa-Quecy Adu, the current NUGS President the said gentleman has no legitimate right to carry himself as the NUGS President, since he was not elected by congress- the largest decision making body of the union.
“At NUGS, we elect our national leaders and under no circumstance do we appoint leaders. Before our congress could even begin, Luqman encouraged by detractors of the union appointed himself as president because he lacks the courage and temerity to stand for elections. The last we heard, he is carrying himself as president when the current NUGS President has not left office yet. As such, Luqman is an imposter and we entreat all and sundry to refrain from dealing with him in any capacity whatsoever.” He said
The NPP Factor in the imposter games
The New Patriotic Party has been fingered as one of the key factions urging Luqman to declare himself as the NUGS President even though he was not elected by congress. According to media reports, the thugs contacted by Luqman to abduct the NUGS President Elect at the premises of TV3 were members of NPP’s vigilante group “invincible forces”.
The NPP youth wing has however released a statement condemning the arrest of Luqman by the Police.
