‘I’m not shaken by massive support for John Mahama’ – Spio-Garbrah

Aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah says he is unfazed by open declaration of support for former President Mahama by some party elders.

He says the Council cannot predict the outcome of the contest since each member has one vote.

Ashanti Regional Council of Elders declared on Monday it will welcome no candidate besides the former President.

Members say John Mahama’s handling of the 2016 elections which saw a peaceful transfer of power to NPP makes him the best choice for the grassroots.

But Dr. Spio-Garbrah says he is equally well known by the party’s rank and file.

“I am not shaken at all by massive support for Mahama. We are in a democracy and each and everyone has the right to support who he supports and so I’m not worried at all. They have every right to support who they want” he said.

Dr. Ekwow-Garbrah said the action of the elders contrary to the General Secretary’s call for party structures to remain neutral.

He says he will seek clarification from the members when he meets with them as part of a visit to Kumasi.
