I’ll win Klottey Korle NPP election re-run – Addison –

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the Klottey-Korle constituency, Philip Addison, says he is confident of winning the party’s primary slated for February 27, 2016.

Mr. Addison said he has what it takes to lead the party in the area and supporters of his opponents have also moved to his side thus boosting his hope of emerging victorious.

A High Court ruling compelled the party to re-run the primary after Mr. Addison challenged the results of the earlier poll in which he was defeated.

Nortey, has decided to contest despite his refusal previously.

Speaking to Citi News, Philip Addison stated that most of the delegates have pledged their support to vote for him.

“If that election was proper and I lost by having only 22 votes, I will not be pressing for a re-run. We boycotted that election and that is why we have been fighting for a re-run. Everything in that election was against us.”

“I can tell you he [Nii Noi Nortey] is more popular in the press but certainly not in my constituency. There’s been a lot of talk on radio and so on; we have refrained from doing so especially from the admonishing of the flagbearer. There are many people who are rooting for him for reasons known to them, but If you come to my constituency, you will see the stories differently,” he added.

The parliamentary aspirant said his side, “Now the few supporters that he has are now decimated, a lot of them are now coming over to my side because they’ve now seen the sort of person he is.” I guess that they’ve seen that I am a man of my word. I’ve also heard that there were promises for most of those who went to vote but those promises were not fulfilled and that person who made those promises, nobody can get to him and as a result of that they are all disenchanted. I will win the primaries convincingly,” he assured.

Results of the previous primary

In that primary, Philip Addison, who was lead counsel for the NPP’s 2012 election petition, polled a meager 22, while Nii Nortey, polled 393 votes. Nii Adjei Tawiah had 19 votes.

But the two were unhappy with the outcome calling the election a sham. They had sought to convince the party to address their concerns internally, but that failed, forcing them to go to court.

Even during their court proceedings, the party got them to agree an out o0f court settlement, but that also failed.

Eventually, the ruling by the court although a bit unclear, appears to have suggested a re-run of the polls.

A statement signed by NPP’s acting General Secretary, John Boadu, said the Klottey Korle primary is now scheduled for Saturday February 27, 2016.
