IEA Prez Debate Proposal Is The Most Ridiculous To Consider . . . – NDC Dep

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson has described as ridiculous the proposal by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to only engage President John Dramani Mahama and the opposition NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo in an intellectual debate.

The IEA has revealed that it is considering holding a separate debate for the presidential candidates of the two major political parties; NDC and NPP ahead of the 2016 November 7 polls.

According to the IEA, it will organise a separate presidential debate for the other smaller political parties after the two major political parties, NPP and NDC have finished their separate debate.

Commenting on the IEA proposal, the Deputy Chief Scribe of the NDC on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning averred the IEA proposal is not good for the country’s democracy as it should be inclusiveness and not selectiveness.

“IEA proposal is the most ridiculous; absurd I have heard in recent time . . . it is not good for our democracy. Democracy is about inclusiveness and not selectiveness or segregation. Democracy is not about ‘Animal Farm’ where some animals are equal and some are more equal than others,” he asserted.

“Any civilised democracy will not accept such proposal from IEA. Democracy strides on fairness and any discerning Ghanaian will never go for that IEA proposal,” he jabbed.

He however urged the IEA to give level playing field to all the Presidential Candidates in the presidential debate as President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo don’t have different presidential forms and don’t pay different fees from the other Presidential Candidates.
