Ibrahim Mahama can go for his equipment – REGSEC

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Elisabeth Agyeman has said that Engineers & Planners (E&P) can now go for their seized equipment from the police.

Agyeman told Kumasi-based Abusua FM that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has decided to release the machines to E&P which is owned by former President Mahama’s brother; Ibrahim.
According to her REGSEC no longer has an issue with the company so they can go for their equipment.

She said REGSEC will write officially to communicate this development to E&P.
The Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei-Mensah directed that the heavy-duty earth-moving machines be seized from mining firm Exton Cubic at a mining concession at Nyinihini.

They have been in the custody of the Nkawie Police Station since then.
Osei-Mensah said the equipment was seized because Exton Cubic had no right to mine bauxite in the area. He said the company had no permit to do so.

Meanwhile, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu, cancelled the bauxite mining lease awarded to the company.
A statement from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources said Exton Cubic failed to officially accept the offer given them in writing.
The statement also cited several irregularities in the award of the contract to Exton Cubic.
“Section 13, subsection 6 indicates an approved application shall lapse if the applicant fails to accept the offer in a form stated in subsection 4,” the statement said.

“There is no record of an acceptance of the offer of the mining lease in writing by the company as mandatorily prescribed by section 13, subsection 4 of the act,” the statement added.
