I support calls to reinstate Afoko – Sammy Crabbe

The second national vice chair of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is backing calls on the party to reinstate suspended national chairman Paul Afoko.

Sammy Crabbe said the return of the embattled chairman means the decision of the delegates at its Tamale Congress last year has been respected.

According to him, the party is obliged to at all times respect individual rights and follow due process in taking decisions that affect members. His call follows series of protests against a decision by the National Executive Committee of the NPP to suspend Afoko indefinitely.

The embattled chairman is alleged to have been working against the party’s plans to recapture power in 2016. A group of concerned NPP members drawn from various constituencies and polling stations in Ghana have petitioned the party to reinstate Afoko. They want the party to respect their decision at the Tamale congress.

“They elected their national chairman and general secretary, and they want their vote to count. They want to make sure we won’t have a situation where they go and elect someone and you have a group of people sitting somewhere for different reasons to as it were take their mandate,” Crabbe told Starr News.

He added: “They put the person there so if for any reason the person has to go, they will decide, not people sitting on the side. They want each and every one of us to come together and I associate with them.”
