High Court dismisses suit against NPP Tema West parliamentary candidate

An Accra High Court has dismissed a suit against the NPP parliamentary candidate for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah.

The suit which was filed by some aggrieved persons suspected to be supporters of the current MP for the area Irene Naa Torshie Addo was praying the court to disqualify Mr. Ahenkorah as the parliamentary candidate of the party.

The plaintiffs claimed that the defendant was not a registered voter in the Tema West constituency at the time of the conduct of the NPP primaries and also he is not a Ga indigene.

However, the court presided over by Justice Norvisi Ayenine held that the NPP acted in bad faith in the manner in which it treated Mr. Ahenkorah.

Justice Ayenine said there is no law which prevents a non-Ga from contesting an election in the country.

She was also of the view that the defendant lawfully transferred his vote from the Tema Central to Tema West.
