‘Gov’t workers play video games during working hours’

Some civil servants working at the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been accused of having no energy conservation plan at the work place.

Deputy Minister for Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, in an interview with Accra based Peace FM on Friday, said it always saddens him whenever he walks to the offices of the various MDAs and sees the staff playing with their computers without recourse to energy conservation.

“When you come to the ministries, you will see some of the workers playing video games with their computers when they have no work to do. At the same time, you also notice that the air conditioners are on. There is no plan to conserve energy. This is bad,” he noted.

Mr. Asamoah was contributing to the recent hikes in utility tariffs by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC).

He said it was about time personnel at the MDAs are taught how to conserve energy at the work place in order to save money.

Hon. Asamoah also advised the public to find ways of maximizing electricity at their various homes and workplace without paying more for their bills.

For instance, he said a house that uses two television sets or refrigerators can maximize the use of electricity and pay less for the power consumed by using one of the domestic appliances at a time
