GOVT TO CONVERT OBETSEBI CIRCLE INTO AN INTERCHANGE

Government has secured a loan worth $39 million, equivalent to GH₵ 154 million, to upgrade the Obetsebi Circle into an interchange.

The project is expected to ease out traffic and flooding on the road which is used by some fifty (50) thousand vehicles from both the Central and Western Regions.

Parliament approved the $17 million loan between government and HSBC bank of the United Kingdom for the construction of the first phase of the project.

Chairman of Parliament’s Road and Transport Committee, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, welcomed the decision by the government.

He explained a Technical Team made up of the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament made that recommendation.

He said their argument was that if government wants to enhance the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange there is the need to ease out traffic on the Obetsebi Circle.

As part of the project, there are a lot of draining works that are going to be done, he said, adding, they are meant to address the issue of flooding which occurs on the road yearly. The phase one of the projects will concentrate on the Kaneshie market road right to the CMB market and will be two and three lanes, he added.
