Gov’t gives approval for Accra coastline development

The government of Ghana has given approval for portions of Accra’s coastline to developed into tourist resort centres in a bid to boost tourism as well as job creation.

The project stretches from Osu to down-town Accra and it seeks to link Osu to Abokobi in the Ga East District on a heritage trails as the two towns share a common heritage of the Basel Missionary activities and

It will have tourist resort with facilities such as hotels, theme parks, shopping malls, casinos and office complex.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister said this in a speech read on her behalf by Gideon Aryeequaye, Acting Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority at the 25anniversary celebration of Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
“We have met all stakeholders who matter in this project and I am happy to inform you that, the Marine Drive Tourism Investment Development Project will begin sooner than anticipated,” Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare
Ofosu-Adjare added: “This project is also in line with government policy on the Public Private Partnership where the government, in this case the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, took the bold initiative to use urban regeneration strategies as a way of attracting investment into developing that beach front into the state of the art tourism and hospitality

According to her, the project will position the coastline from Osu to down-town Accra as an attractive destination for tourism.
“When completed, the project will transform the entire coastline from Osu to down-town Accra and position the community as an attractive destination for tourism, job creation and income generation for the youth.”
