Governments asked to protect girl child from forced marriages as the world marks international day for the girl child

This is a day when all attention be focused on the Girl Child with a massive and relentless drive towards a world of equality.

The theme for this year’s observation is a world free of discrimination for young women and girls.

A statement by Girls not Brides Ghana, an NGO, signed by the Chairperson, Mrs Aba Oppong said it is sad to note that child brides are often unable to effectively negotiate safe sex, leaving them vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancies.
