Government to introduce 120,000 students in Boarding Schools fee-free SHS education

President Mahama has announced that government will from next Academic Year introduce 120,000 students in Boarding Schools progressively fee-free SHS education.

The President was speaking at the inauguration of the community day Senior High school at Agona Abodom in the Central Region.

President Mahama said in line with the social democracy policy, government will continue to provide timely interventions to help alleviate the hardships of the citizenry.

For the Central Region, eight out of the 14 community day schools have been completed.

The intervention, meant to give each community a senior High day school is to accommodate children who will otherwise be out of school.

President Mahama has also directed the Minister of Education to populate all completed community day SHS before the academic year begins.

The Minister of Education, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang said government will continue to make secondary education accessible to all.

She said government priority on education is to help alleviate poverty and better the lot of the citizens.

Prof Naana Opoku Agyemang said before government took the decision to construct the community day schools all the necessary steps to ensure the sustenance of the projects were put in place and therefore the propaganda by some politicians that government failed to take steps to adequately resource the schools is false.
