Ghana’s Top Celebrities Endorse John Mahama

More Ghanaian celebrities continue to endorse the candidature of the president, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of his closest contender, Nana Akufo-Addo, for the December 7 presidential and parliamentary polls.

This has left some New Patriotic Party (NPP) fanatics like Nana Fredua Prempeh and Samuel Bryan Buabeng in a pensive mood with those unable to control themselves attacking their national executives including Sammy Awuku; the National Youth Organizer on social media platforms.

Others like the Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Anthony Karbo, are also attacking some of the stars in public, suggesting they are opportunists.

The celebrities, who per The Herald’s observation, cut across the various segments of the entertainment industry, are rooting for the president mainly, because of the many developmental projects initiated by his government under four years.

The list seem endless, but actor John Dumelo, radio presenter, Abeiku Aggrey Santana, actor, songstress Mzbel, Clement Bonney alias Mr. Beautiful, highlife musician Nat Brew Amandzeba and actress Kalsoum Sinare, have all publicly stated their preference for President Mahama, as opposed to his 72-year old challenger on the ticket of the NPP.

Though some are being vilified, verbally attacked and even threatened, the list of the talented young men and women, whose performances put smiles on the face of many Ghanaians, keep growing as they are boldly stepping out to express their love for the affable president, who is seeking re-election.

Prominent among these endorsers is the good looking actor, John Dumelo. He has from 2012, been rumoured to be a supporter of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), following an advertisement he did for their campaign.

Though, John didn’t come out to deny or accept the accusation then, the actor, who has a Fanti mother and an Ewe father, has from the better part of this year, declared he is NDC,and and been moving from various educational institutions across the country, selling the president’s message of hope, as well as his policies, which are ‘Changing Lives and Transforming Ghana’.

Sometime last year, John was seen in the company of the tough-minded actress, Sellasie Ibrahim at the Volta Regional capital, Ho, to support President Mahama, who was launching his campaign for the NDC’s presidential primaries.

Interestingly, John, has revealed he has a presidential ambition and hopes that in 10 years time, he would make that dream a reality. It is not yet clear, if he is a card-bearing member of President Mahama’s party; NDC.

Anthony Karbo, has in an interview with Kasapa 102.5 FM, said Dumelo should be advised that he cannot ride on the back of the NPP to bring himself to the limelight in the political realm.

“If Mr. Dumelo is interested in getting into the dirty gutter and unguarded politics of attack, he should know that this is the very party that took care of him sometime ago, when he was a student at KNUST, the party was there for him,” he cautioned in an interview with host, Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa Monday.

“What morals will a person like John Dumelo be teaching young people, what has he achieved,? We want John Dumelo and the GES to understand that this illegality that is being perpetrated; that he’ll be going round these schools where political activities are not allowed. We know that in the second cycle schools politics is not accepted so why do you allow him to campaign for Mahama?

“And all those headmasters, who give him the opportunity to come to their schools under the cover of a peace ambassador, meanwhile he’s there to campaign for John Mahama, we are watching them.”

Again, veteran actress, Kalsoume Sinare, has also declared that the president is going to win the upcoming elections.

The actress, who was amongst 30 other celebrities, who campaigned for President Mahama last four years, said she was proud and highly encouraged to campaign for him again.

Speaking to Ghanapoliticsonline.Com, Kalsoume Sinare, said that she has not regretted campaigning for the president, and that she was going to do that again, ahead of the December polls.

“Normally when you campaign for someone what you really expect from the person is to deliver which John Dramani Mahama has done and I’m proud and highly encouraged to campaign for him again,” she said.

The actress further stated that this year’s campaign was going to be easier than last four years because, there is enough evidence of achievements by the present government under the stewardship of President Mahama.

“In just four years, JM has worked and haven’t disappointed Ghanaians at all. We have to give him one more term so he can fully complete the good work he’s started,” she implored.

About the challenges and lamentations from opposition, the actress, who is married to football legend, Tony Baffour, said that the opposition woud always find faults, but as to the realities on the grounds, Ghanaians are aware that Mahama has worked and thus deserves a second term in office.

Leading the musician group is hiplife artist, Belinda Nana Akua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel. The “Abi 16 years” hitmaker, made her intention known this week and though she has not been spared with attacks, especially on social media, she insisted that the president, has done enough to deserve her vote.

Speaking on Neat FM’s morning show with Kwesi Aboagye yesterday, Mzbel, mother of one said, she decided to endorse President Mahama, because of the numerous projects she saw in the government’s much talked about green book.

She said, even though when she started talking about the projects, opponents of the government made the effort to convince her that the projects in the book were mere Photoshop she became convinced when she saw the president commissioning a number of the Community Day Senior High School (SHS).

She mentioned the Ridge and Legon hospitals, as some of the projects she was happy about.

According to Mzbel, although she has been attacked with many insults, she is not worried except her four children, three of who adopted, who go on the internet to read some of these insults. A former close friend of Mzbel, Valentina Agyeiwaa aka Afia Schewarzenagar, has long endorsed President Mahama, who she calls her “boyfriend”.

Afia’s defense of the president and his younger brother, Ibrahim Mahama, led to a radio fight with the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong. She has since lost her job at the Despite Group of Companies.

Though she is yet to make any endorsement, highlife musician, Rebecca Acheampong alias Becca, has said her favourite politician is president Mahama.

Boxers, Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers, have also endorsed the president separately. The two boxers, have gone ahead to perform songs for the president. Perhaps the most consistent of all the actors is Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr. Beautiful.

The Fanti actor, has been with the first family since the last elections, and even though he has also received his share of the insults and attacks from the NPP, he is not perturbed. He was blacklisted by Kumawood producers, because of his association with the president and the NDC, except to say that he fears for his life, but quickly added that that will not deter him from campaigning for the NDC.

Another known supporter of the NDC, is veteran highlife musician Lucky Mensah. He has done a number of hit songs for and against the NDC during the late president John Evans Atta Mills’ administration, but has taken the backstage now, because he claims he has been disappointed by the party.

He is yet to show any sign of bitterness against President Mahama in particular.

Artists manager, Bull Dog, known in private life as Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, has also endorsed the president for a second term. The former manager of dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah aka Shatta Wale, who says, life is all about choices, has also said he would in the future go into full time politics, after he quits his job as artists’ manager.

Shatta Wale’s father now a chief, is a known NDC member and though he is yet to endorse anyone, he has done a hit song for president Mahama titled, “Mahama Paper”, which some say the NDC, is going to adopt as campaign song. It was the theme song for the president’s “Accounting to the People tour”.

Former member of hilife trio, NAKOREX, Amandziba, whose real name is Nat Brew, has also endorsed the president. Though he noted Nana Addo is a good candidate too, he prefers President Mahama.

Veteran hilife singer, CK Mann, has also said, he would have written a song for the president, if he was well.

Meanwhile, a few of the celebrities, have also tipped the NPP’s candidate, Nana Addo, to win the forthcoming elections. They are satirical musician, Kwame A Plus, who uses his facebook page to campaign for the 72-year old. The others are, highlife artists, Kwabena Kwabena, Charles Kojo Fosu, aka Daddy Lumba, and gospel musician, Kojo Ampong.

The trio, have all separately performed songs for Nana Addo. Popular rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, aka Sakordie, is rumoured to be in the camp of Nana Addo.

Others are film producer, Socrate Sarfo, artist manager, Mark Okraku Mantey, Wisa, the ‘ekikimi’ hitmaker, who displayed his manhood, while performing to a large audience at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on 24 December 2015.
