Ghana’s Inflation rate falls to 18.7% in April

The year-on-year inflation rate fell to 18.7 per cent in April compared to 19.2 per cent in March as inflation in the non-food group slowed, the Deputy Government Statistician, Mr Baah Wadieh, said on Wednesday.

The monthly change rate for April was 1.4 per cent compared to the 1.7 per cent recorded in March 2016.

Mr Wadieh said the non-food group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 24.8 per cent in April down from 25.7 in March.

Four subgroups of the non-food group recorded year-on-year inflation rates higher than the group’s average of 24.8 per cent.

Transport recorded the highest inflation rate of 40.4 per cent, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with 35.8 per cent, education with 30.9 per cent and recreation and culture with 28.1 per cent.ganapoliticsonline.com

Mr Wadieh said inflation was lowest in the communication subgroup with 12.9 per cent.

On the other hand the food and non-alcoholic beverages group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 8.4 per cent compared to 8.3 per cent in March.

At the regional level the year-on-year inflation rate ranged from 13.9 per cent in the Upper East Region to 22.0 per cent in the Greater Accra Region.

Two regions; Ashanti and Greater Accra, recorded inflation rates above the national average of 18.7 per cent.GNA
