Ghana’s economy is in serious trouble – Kwesi Pratt

Finance Minister, Seth Terkper presented a mid-year budget review and a supplementary budget to Parliament on Monday.

The Minister asked Parliament to approve GHC1.8 billion to help run programmes and policies for the rest of the year.

Mr. Terkper is however optimistic the economy is rising contrary to views by opponents that it is sinking.

But Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper says Ghanaians should not be looking for a “heaven” anywhere in this government.

According to him, there are serious problems in the economy which should not be undermined.

Recounting the challenges confronting the economy, he noted that the economic problems didn’t originate from the Mahama administration but it however behoves the government to put pragmatic measures in place to revamp the economy.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Mr. Pratt advised the managers of the economy not to “create the impression that there’s a heaven somewhere. The Ghanaian economy is in serious trouble, very serious trouble which is prudent that we have to adopt a populist evaluation of the Ghanaian economy. We need to sit and ask ourselves; what ways can we adopt to pluck this economy from this quagmire.

“It doesn’t mean that the problem is their problem but for not acting now. It doesn’t also mean that the problem did not exist before they came. It doesn’t mean that others who handled the problem much earlier handled the problem much better than they’re handling. That is my approach to empirical serious discussion of the national economy.”
