Ghanaian Women Must Rise Up Against Ken Agyapong -Action Women for NDC

Action Women for National Democratic Congress (NDC) is repulsed with disquiet that for the umpteenth time, Kennedy Agyapong (MP) for Assin Central has managed to hurt the people of Ghana in general and the hard working Ghanaian women in particular.

The worrying aspect of this unsavoury personal attack on the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson,Mrs Charlotte Osei , is not merely the hatred of women by men and sexual bias it portrays, but the unescapable reality that the people of Assin Central have sent to Parliament, a person whose orientation and utterance is set in the 16th Century.

By this personal attack on the EC Chairperson, the MP has turned back the decades of progress that has been made to ensure gender equity and development in this country.

We the Action Women, seeks no any other thing but to demand for an immediate apology from Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to the EC Chairperson and the Commission as an entity, the good people of Ghana and the constituents that he misrepresented in Parliament for the sixteen years.

Further, it is our instructive to point out that, what Kennedy Agyepong said against the person of the Chairperson of the EC-Mrs Charlotte Osei is not against the integrity and credibility of Ghanaian women only, but also Africa women and men, fathers and husbands, hence, our call on him to apologise immediately and most importantly for the privilege committee of parliament to find appropriate sanction to serve as deterrent to others.

In addition, the parliamentary select committee of communication of which Kennedy Agyepong is said to be a member, should purge him and distant itself from such unfortunate comments coming from a dishonorable member of parliament for the people of Assin Central.

While we expect the privilege committee to issue a proper and more deterrent sanction on the misogyny comment, we also call on members of the Christian Council, Muslims Council, the Ghana Catholic Bishop Conference, Civil Society, pressure groups, other Women groups and indeed all well-meaning Ghanaians, to show the strongest abhorrence to this unfortunate situation.
Again, we call on the good people of Assin Central and the Central Region as a whole to ensure that this dishonourable man, Kennedy Agyapong’s days in Parliament is numbered so that by the Nov 7th elections, the people of Assin will not experience this public disgrace by not voting for him again to go to Parliament and disgrace the nation to the eyes of the global world.

We reiterates that, our political discourse should not have space for insults and insulting personalities like Kennedy Agyapong.

All women should be mobilised and rise up to stop any future situation of this nature.
