Ghana travels with largest delegation number to UN conference

Ghana seems to have chalked a rather negative record feat at the United Nations Assembly after presenting a twenty two-man delegation led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the world body’s Trade and Development Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

While other member countries presented an average of five participants, representatives of Ghana lined up delegates including Protocol, Official Cameraman, Official Photographer, Valet and Chief Security Officer as well as several officials at the Office of the Vice President.

After Ghana, the subsequent highest number of delegation submitted by an African country was Mauritius, with five officials.

The list of participants at the fourth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development which was intercepted by ghanaweb.com contained the delegations submitted by 93 member states.

The conference was held from 11th – 22nd September with key issues deliberated on including; -High-level dialogue: Is the world integrating or disintegrating?

-Development strategies in a globalized world

-Contribution of UNCTAD to the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries

-Evolution of the international trading system and its trends from a development perspective

-Investment for development: Investment and the digital economy

-Establishing development linkages in the extractive sector: Lessons from the field

-Activities of UNCTAD in support of small island developing States and in support of landlocked developing countries

-UNCTAD contributions to the implementation of and follow-up to the outcomes of the major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic and social fields

Technical cooperation activities: -Review of the technical cooperation activities of UNCTAD

-Report on UNCTAD assistance to the Palestinian people
